What is the BillDesk Service?

E-Bill, or Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP), is an Internet technology solution enabling billers to present their bills and other billing information to customers electronically. The "E-Bill" is a new option for Mahanagar Gas customers to receive their gas bill. Developed in partnership with www.billdesk.com, the E-Bill is an electronic version of the paper bill that you receive today, but is accessible over the Internet by using an Internet browser. The E-Bill resides on www.billdesk.com, all information, will continue to appear on the E-Bill just as it will on the paper bill.

How does E-Bill benefit me?

Electronic billing reduces the time it takes an average household to manage bills. An average Indian household receives 8-10 bills and statements every month. Retrieval from the mailbox, sorting, opening, analyzing, paying, mailing, and filing these by hand takes an average of 10 minutes per item. This process takes approximately 3 hours every month or 45 minutes every week. E-Bill can be used to view and pay your bill, all-online from the Internet.

How do I sign up for the E-Bill?

Simply click on the register link provided. This will take you to the registration page on www.billdesk.com. Once at the BillDesk website you will be asked to provide some information about yourself, your bank account details and choose your userid and password. Once your request to sign-up has been received and verified, and your bank account details verified by your bank manager, you account will be activated and you will be requested to add Mahanagar Gas as a biller by entering the customer reference no allotted to you by Mahanagar Gas

What information from Mahanagar Gas do I need to enroll?

You will need to know the Customer Reference No allotted to you by Mahanagar Gas. During enrollment, you will be asked to enter your customer reference number. To enable you to entry your number correctly you should have a copy of your last bill.

What if I do not want to use the E-Bill?

No one is being forced to use the E-Bill. The E-Bill is intended to be an alternative to the traditional paper bill for those customers who wish to use it and find it more convenient than their existing paper bill. Under no circumstance will any customer be required to use this bill receipt method. In addition, customers who elect to use the E-Bill, may discontinue and return to the traditional paper bill at any time.

Do I need to open a new bank account?

No, you do not have to open a new account with any bank to avail this service. The BillDesk service works with any of your existing bank accounts in the city, which has an MICR code (a 9 digit number that you can see at the bottom of the cheque printed by your bank). All you need, to do is to furnish your bank account details in the Enrollment Form followed by a signed Payment Authorisation form. With this authorisation, BillDesk can execute your payment instructions.

Is there any difference between my physical bill data and the electronic data?

Your Electronic bill contains all the important information that is present in your current physical bill so that you can understand, review and make payments. However, the amounts may differ slightly due to rounding off the amount payable to the lower amount payable.

What is the Customer Reference No?

Customer Reference No or Consumer code is the identifier by which you are recognised by Mahanagar Gas. It is printed on the top left corner of your Mahanagar Gas Bill.

When will I receive my bill information after I register?

You will receive your first E -Bill after a request is sent to Mahanagar Gas. Mahanagar Gas generally takes one billing cycle to process and provide the bill data electronically

What is the timing of receipt of the electronic data?

The customers will receive the bills after Mahanagar Gas processes them. Generally customers will view their electronic bills before they receive their physical bills.

Can I pay someone else's Mahanagar Gas bill?

A customer can pay someone else's bill. However, to do so the customer will have to add the Consumer reference number of the person whose Mahanagar Gas bill he wishes to pay.

No, You do not have to contact Mahanagar Gas for using the service. After you register, we will take it from there.

How does Mahanagar Gas know that I am using your service?

You need to provide your customer reference number while adding Mahanagar Gas. We will verify and confirm your association with Mahanagar Gas so that bills can be presented to you and you can make payments to them.

Do I have to pay the entire bill amount?

Yes. Mahanagar Gas does not accept part payments, therefore you will have to pay the entire bill amount.

What happens if I have a dispute with Mahanagar Gas?

We shall assist you in every possible manner to provide you with information on the bills presented and payments that you have made. However, please note that we are not responsible for settling disputes between Mahanagar Gas and you relating to the amounts billed to you. For any specific charge that you might wish to dispute or discuss in a specific bill, you would need to contact Mahanagar Gas directly.

What are the consequences of not paying a bill that is presented to me?

If you haven't acted upon a bill presented, we will not be able to make a payment to Mahanagar Gas on your behalf. Accordingly, specific terms and conditions laid down by Mahanagar Gas for late or non-payment of bills could become applicable.

Are my transactions safe?

The security and confidentiality of your personal and financial information is of utmost importance to us. You are provided with best-in-class security standards when it comes to using the BillDesk service so that your transactions at BillDesk are safe. To prevent unauthorized access and ensure the appropriate use of information, BillDesk has put in place appropriate procedures to safeguard all personal information that BillDesk collects online. Your account is protected by passwords and only you can access the account information.

Further BillDesk is secured using Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. This ensures that your account numbers, personal data and other online information exchange at BillDesk are never sent over the Internet unencrypted and cannot be viewed by unauthorised individuals. This encryption is done using 128-bit encryption, the maximum level of encryption possible today on the Internet.

Your data resides in the BillDesk database and is protected by a firewall. This firewall is configured to receive and process requests only from authorized personnel and can detect any unauthorized activity. Further some of the highly critical information such as your password, secret question, secret answer, etc. is stored in the database in a hashed format, thereby preventing misuse of data even by any remote possibility. Regular back-ups are taken of the data so that appropriate recovery measures can be initiated of the latest information if there are any hardware problems.

In addition, processes and operations at BillDesk are designed to identify and control risks. These are in the form of different management and reporting control measures such as authorisation controls and segregation of conflicting responsibilities. All these measures ensure that at BillDesk you have the safest and most secure experience that you can get anywhere.
